Frogs and Toads
In the ponds, swamps, and forest lakes found within the great forest live the peoples of the toads and frogs.
Their kind produces many, indeed the greatest, mages, and within their cities, which are partly located on or even beneath the water, there are numerous institutions devoted to the study and practice of magic in various forms.
Members of the toad and frog folk are not particularly skilled craftsmen, but through the use of magic they more than compensate for this weakness. Their powers are also used to expand swamp regions, thereby increasing the habitat available to their people.
Ultimately, nearly every frog and toad possesses an innate ability to use magic. However, only a few ever achieve true mastery. The toads in particular seem to possess a far greater natural talent. To maintain their magical dominance, it is not uncommon for the toads, who regard the frogs as inferior, to deliberately withhold magical training from them, allowing only selected individuals to be trained as shamans.
The most powerful toad mages are deeply revered and are regarded as almost godlike. Cults form around certain individuals, who lead their followers into battle in the name of their mighty leader, seeking to subjugate the other peoples of the forest.
